Asphalt has been used on highways since 1500 A.D. when Peruvians used it on their highways. Asphalt has been in use for quite some time—even the bible mentions Noah lining the ark with pitch, another name for asphalt. Asphalt highways have always suffered from cracks but now there is a simple and long-lasting solution for asphalt repair on highways.
Asphalt highway repairs cost everyone time and tax dollars. The longer a highway is closed, the more inconvenience there is for drivers and more exposure and risk to workers. Using Roklin’s polyurethane repair products significantly shortens closure time and the repair lasts longer than traditional asphalt repair methods so there won’t be repeat closures and repairs for asphalt highway repairs.
As with standard asphalt highway repair, the highway must be closed and prepared. Once the highway closure is complete, remove any loose pieces-- rocks, stones, broken asphalt. Since highways have such fast-moving traffic, the road tends to be fairly clean and likely won’t need to be swept or blown clean.
It is important to have complete access to the damaged area so that material can flow freely in order to fill in any voids under the asphalt. Place Concrete Welder using the polymer-dispenser machine. Once the void has filled and you can see the polyurethane rise, cover with specially-coated sand. This will ensure that the FloMix will stick to the surface. Next use FloMix to fill in the area and restore the grade.
Open bucket of FloMix, carefully pour contents of bottle "a" into provided 5-gallon bucket then add special sand. Next, shake bottle "b" thoroughly and pour into sand mixture. On cold days or when there is little time for the repair, catalyst can be supplied and added to speed the reaction.
Spray a light coat of vegetable oil on the paddle in order to keep the paddle clean. Place the paddle in the pail, turn on and mix for one minute before adding aggregate. When mixture is completely wet, pour FloMix onto damaged area and use a trowel or lute to smooth material into cracks. When repair is sufficiently smooth, toss topping sand by hand over repaired asphalt repair to create a uniform look and feel.
Your asphalt highway repair should be complete in about an hour. Remove cones and open the area for traffic.
