Many people prize light skin. It gives the appearance of glowing good health and youthful beauty. You can try a number of cosmetic preparations that promise to lighten the skin to this ideal beauty, but before you start that, you might want to consider a homemade skin lightener for a simple and inexpensive way to get lighter skin.
The medical term for skin lightening is "depigmentation". Too much pigment is what causes naturally dark skin. It can also build up in one spot. This is why we get moles, liver spots, age spots, and other kinds of hyperpigmentation (too much pigment). Skin lightening products are medically referred to as "depigmenting agents".
How to Lighten Skin: Even though there are many ways to lighten the skin tone naturally I will be telling you about three methods that work best. But any skin lightening procedure to be effective should be done consistently over a period of time to get the desired result.
Lemon juice is indeed one of the best natural skin lightening solution you can find in your kitchen. Application of freshly squeezed lemon juice on the areas with dark spots can help lighten the skin and eliminate dark sports.
There are many skin whitening creams, some are safer and more effective than others. One very effective skin whitening product is kojic dipalmitate, which is a derivative of kojic acid. Kojic acid is a by-product in the fermentation process of malting rice for use in the manufacturing of the Japanese rice wine.
While there are many skin lightening products to choose from, most people tend to use a topical, over-the-counter skin bleaching product. Typically these products contain one main ingredient: Hydroquinone.
The truth is some of these products may be dangerous such as those that still use the ingredient Hydroquinone. While this ingredient has been effectively used for years to lighten the skin, recent studies have concluded that it is in fact dangerous and may lead to the development of cancer.
Cucumber juice is also one of nature's way to help you lighten your skin. It is usually combined with a few drops of fresh lemon juice and applied to the dark spots to even the coloring.
Alpha Arbutin: Alpha arbutin has a stronger effect than beta-arbutin and is also commonly found in skin lightening products as a safer alternative to hydroquinone.
Other ingredients that are natural and have been shown to lighten skin are: alpha arbutin, kogic acid, lemon extract, malachite extract, willow bark extract, vitamin A palmitate, passionflower extract, allantoin, and jojoba oil to name a few.
Vitamin C:Vitamin C also inhibits the production of melanin. When used as a skin lightener, Vitamin C (also known as ascorbic acid) is applied as either a serum or a powder.
Arbutin: Arbutin is a plant extract that, like hydroquinone, limits the production of melanin in the user's body. Studies have shown that 1% concentration of this extract can considerably lighten one's skin. It's a comparatively more stable ingredient compared to hydroquinone and is said to be less irritating to sensitive skin.
