Private Guitar Lessons

This was really the only way to go 10 years ago. No other option even came close. You would meet with an instructor; go over the curriculum, cost and schedule. The instructor would go over the way to handle the guitar. They would teach you the composition of the guitar and show you step by step where and how to place your fingers over the frets with the right amount of force to not have the dreaded, "buzz" from the strings.

Well, this type of instruction does and/or did not come cheap. When I was taking lessons it was in the ball park of $40/hour. Plus, if I was struggling with a technique I had to wait till my next lesson to discuss it with my teacher. In today's world, this type of instruction just seems outdated. This brings us to another option

Online Video Guitar Lessons

This is really revolutionary. One of the things I'm most impressed with is the attention to detail. You can see exactly where your fingers are placed and the chords are played on the guitar from several different camera angles. This works well when you're trying to see how your hands look from your point of view, instead of looking at the fret board backwards. Also, you can learn from individual experts who specialize in the specific genre you are wanting to learn. What better than to have a specialized expert in "metal" if you want to learn metal?

I also like the fact you can pause and watch the technique over and over again without an instructor standing over your shoulder causing you more stress by pushing to get it right. My last point is cost. This by far outweighs private guitar instruction. For over three quarters of the cost you could learn in half the time (depending on how quickly you learn).
