Faucets are available in all models of, whether they are for your kitchen, bathroom of garage. You will find the standard chrome faucets with compression type valves and there are those with ball valves. They come in every finishes like stainless steel and colored enamel finishes.
To get to understand about your faucet, I'll discuss below the different parts of a faucet you'll encounter if you try to dissect or repair your faucet.
The essential parts of a faucet are:
a) The tail piece:
b) The length between the tail pieces
c) The mounting nut that contains the faucet on the sink
d) The supply tube for delivering water on the faucet
e) The shutoff valve to control the supply of water when repairs are needed
f) The aerator that is in charge of mixing water appearing out of the spout with air to avoid splashes
g) The control valve (there are several control valves which will be discussed below)
There are several faucets with compression valves that separate the hot as well as the cold. A common difference between compression valves and all other is that it'll have a rubber washer at its base compressing against a valve, shutting off the water.
Others faucets have ball-type valves and are normally found on single handle faucets. The ball valve behaves similarly like a car stick shift using the left and right controlling the temperature and also the front and back controlling the flow of the water.
Another type of faucet are those that have cartridge type valves. They are offered both in single and double handle styles. Double handle cartridge type faucets work very in the same way to compression valves except using the less extra pressure applied when closing the valve. For single handle cartridge faucets, and also this resembles the ball-type valves other than the flow is controlled by raising or lowering the handle.
Most are basically the several aspects of a faucet. Various other complicated faucets may have different parts but for generally, you may encounter faucets of similar structure using the ones I've stated earlier
