Another guitar gadget that you can use is the chorus. This is an effect where individual sounds with about the same timbre and almost the same pitch converge are then considered to be as one.
The effect can either happen naturally or electronically. Ultimately, when the sounds are played together, none of them will seem out of tune or off key. The sound becomes rich, which would not be the case if the sound just came from one single source. You will find this effect more apparent when you listen to sounds that would be sustained for long periods of time.
The chorus effect is something that is very innate to the string family. Since the guitar is a part of the string family, the chorus is one of the most perfect effects that you could use. The effect is then enhancing when the sounds would come from different moments, timed slightly from different locations such as in a full band.
The effect can of course be simulated using a gadget. This looks much like your distortion, your wah pedal and any other gadget. It can also be done on the computer during the processing of the musical piece. But let us, first, concentrate on the foot-pedal gadget that would be more commonly used by guitar players.
When you activate the chorus effect by pressing down on the pedal, the processor takes the audio signal from the guitar and then mixes it with one or more pitch-modulated and delayed copies of that same sound. The pitch of the "replica sounds" are moderated, which then allows the overall effect of the gadget to be similar to flanging except that this have longer delays and does not have feedback.
Sometimes, guitars would have the effect built in to the guitar. Some acoustic and electric guitars have the option to turn the chorus effect on and off with a switch. Also, as mentioned earlier, you can put in the chorus effect during the processing of recorded music. You can always apply the effect when you do the editing and tweaking of your musical piece. This allows you to add some more reverb and delays to fully enhance the quality of the musical piece. These does not only cater to the chorus exclusively but also allows other related effects to be added in.
