Rajasthan is truly a great tourist destination for those that want to experience the royal hospitality in India and want to feel catered to like a Raja or king. The wonderful sand dunes, the magnificent palaces and the overall aura of this north-western state of the Indian Republic have cast a spell on the tourists that makes them visit at least once in their lifetime and gives them a memorable royal experience. There are several cultural tour packages that one may go for in Rajasthan and learn about various aspects of the local culture, at the same time cherishing this unique experience.
The culture of this land is a potpourri of living styles, belief systems, dance forms and acrobatics that was brought forth and nurtured by the emigrants to this wonderful place and of course the indigenous people’s contribution that has added more flavor to it. The dance forms like Kal Beliya and Ghoomar are a combination of dance and acrobatics and they are very popular among the tourists. Several hotels specially organize shows of these forms of art to help the tourists gain the experience of breathing in the atmosphere of local culture and carrying home indelible memories of glorious Rajasthan.
Camel riding and visiting forts sitting in "Palkhis" or palanquins is yet another experience that can be best had in Rajasthan. Jaipur, the pink city has a wonderful market where you may purchase world-class jewelry and ethnic outfits. The lightweight blankets of Jaipur are also very famous and warm. Udaipur is famous for its puppet shows that are more entertaining than the movies. Rajasthan is also famous for the competitions involving camels and the fairs where camels are sold. Bikaner and Jaisalmer are famous for their architectural relics and sand dunes. Ajmer is very famous for the Dargah or shrine of Sufi mystic Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. Pushkar, located near Ajmer is the only place in India where the "Creator Deity" of Hindu Trinity i.e. Brahma is worshipped in a temple. Mount Abu is a picturesque hill station, located in the Aravalis and it has a lot that the tourists would surely appreciate. The Toad Rock, Nun Rock and the Nakkhi Lake are beautiful and the tourists enjoy boating in this lake.
The cultural tour of any place would be incomplete if the local cuisine remains unexplored. The fiery cuisine of Rajasthan has a different zing and appeal. Both vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian dishes are present on the Rajasthani platter. The recipes are indeed mouth watering. Tadke-wali-Dal, Gatte ki Sabzi and Laddu are truly yummy. The use of indigenous spices gives a unique flavor to the food.
Rajasthan is full of forts, palaces, lakes and all that will probably tell you "Come back again" or "Stay here". If you happen to visit India and do not include Rajasthan in your itinerary, you are probably missing out an experience of your lifetime.
