Foot Massage: Energizing Tired Feet
Giving yourself or someone else’s feet a foot massage is an energizing activity that is bound to give much pleasure to whoever receives such treatment. Studies pertaining to foot massages are called reflexology and getting in-depth knowledge about it is something that will not only enhance one’s know-how but also improve their foot massage techniques.
Knowing about the essential fundamental rules can help to give general tension relieving foot rubs. A number of benefits that result from reflexology can occur by simply rubbing the soles of the feet and taking special care of tender areas. A foot massage is sure to make the feet feel relaxed and comfortable.
Some Techniques to be Followed in Giving a Foot Massage
The first thing to consider in a foot massage is to have two or three towels handy as well as keep enough lotions or creams. For feet having rough calluses and hard skin, a rich cream would be ideal and works better than a hand lotion or oil, though they will all work, to different degrees. There are also people who might wish to use creams scented with eucalyptus or mint, both of which work wonders for refreshing tired feet. A natural disinfectant is tea tree oil, or if you wish to make your own concoction, mix a few drops of essential oil with unscented creams.
The second important factor to note when giving a foot massage is to keep the feet absolutely clean, so soak the feet with a cup of Epsom salt that has been dissolved in a gallon of warm water because it will help to de-stress before the foot massage begins. In addition, make sure that the feet are completely dried, even between the toes of the feet.
Next, massage the feet, one foot at a time and follow a routine - start massaging the cream with care into the whole foot, starting from top and right down to the bottom and then to the toes and ankles.
Then, one needs to work a little more deeply by applying strokes around the feet and working one’s way up to the ankles and then on to the soles of the feet, taking care to place a towel below to protect the recipient’s clothes. Apply some more pressure and continue by going over the sole again, taking care to apply more pressure on points that may be experiencing chronic pain. When massaging the toes, use gentle and circular motions and stretch the feet a bit as you rub them.
Use enough cream and rub the feet gently, finishing the foot massage by repeating the all-over massage that was done at the beginning. When the foot massage has been completed, make sure that the soles of the feet are dried completely to prevent accidental slipping and once the massage is over, the feet will once again, feel fresh and soft.
