It is amazing to watch celebrities gain 50 pounds for a starring role in a certain film and then subsequently drop the weight to play a skinny, fit character in another film. The masterful control the celebrities have over their weight can be attributed to the old adage of eating healthy and exercising. With proper diet and exercise, any weight loss goal is achievable. Many people believe this simple weight loss cliché is ineffective. Those people simply are not sticking to a strict diet plan or a tough exercise regimen.

The most important things to do when starting the old diet and exercise plan for weight loss is to eliminate harmful foods such as sugar, processed food and white bread and pasta. The composition of these foods will actually cause your body's blood sugar to skyrocket soon after eating. In turn, the heighten blood sugar will cause your body to store the food as fat, rather than process it for the nutrients it contains. This effect is especially harmful with white grains (bread, pasta) and sugars (sodas, candy). A proper diet should include many whole grains while eliminating things like soda and candy. Healthy alternatives would be waters flavored with non-sugar sweeteners and fruit for that kick of energy rather than a candy bar.

A proper diet should consist mostly of cardiovascular exercise such as walking, running, swimming, cycling and rowing. Any activity that raises the heart rate will help to burn fat. The ultimate goal of anyone trying to lose weight should be to burn more calories than they are taking in. Strength training, such as lifting weights, will not help in burning calories. While lifting will burn a few calories, cardiovascular exercise is much more efficient.

By sticking to a strict diet and tough exercise regimen, you can experience weight loss with old cliché of diet and exercise. Simply burn more calories than you are taking in and soon the pounds will be disappearing!
