When planning a new bathroom design or layout, there aren’t many absolute rules; it all depends on your taste and preference. However, the tips and guides provided here will provide you with some helpful hints on how to go about designing your ideal bathroom.
When you are planning your bathroom layout, the first thing to do is to list the items that need to be included in your bathroom suite. The obvious items that you would consider include the bath, shower, toilet, and hand basin.
The next thing that you should do as you plan your bathroom design is to determine where to position other fixtures, such as an extractor fan, shelves, a laundry basket, a chair/stool, an electric shaver power point, a medicine chest, bathroom cabinet, and a mirror, and whether or not you have sufficient space for additional fixtures such as a light above the mirror or extra shelving or cupboard space.
Take precise measurements of the dimensions of your bathroom and then use squared paper to draw a floor plan of your working area, taking care to ensure that everything is drawn to scale. This will help to simplify your task immensely. On the drawn plan, mark the current state of your bathroom. Be sure to include the positions of all of the existing services/fixtures, such as the drains, pipes, hot and cold water outlets, electric points, extractor vents/fans, and any other existing bathroom fixtures. This will give you an idea of what needs to be added, removed, or moved.
In addition to this, it could also be a good idea to draw scaled versions of all the bathroom fixtures that you would like to include in your bathroom design and cut them out. These cut-outs can then be arranged on your scale drawing to give you a good idea of how much space is available to you. As you work out all the little details, do not forget to write the name of each unit on each piece of paper – it is very easy to lose track of what each piece of paper represents.
Bathroom Decor/Fixtures – Making the Right Choice
When choosing the color scheme and style of your bathroom suite, be sure to give it a lot of thought before settling on a motif. Your bathroom should reflect your personality and you must feel comfortable using it, but it should also match the general design and look and feel of the other rooms in your house. It may feel very exciting to go for exotic and outrageous colors or shapes, but they may bore you sooner than you think or become a bit overwhelming. Try to design something that is timeless. Fads and trends come and go, and you don’t want to be stuck with a garish or outdated bathroom design. It is best to go for standard white or a neutral color. This will make it easy to update your bathroom design in future.
