Any time the weather conditions are hot and dry, a home that is set amidst trees and shrubs is going to be popular. You may enjoy the remote feel of the trees and shade. Householders know that the spaces which are so appealing when it is hot and shade is desirable are usually a lot less desirable if your house is surrounded by dimly lit shadowed places through the night. Many homeowners decide to eliminate the problem by placing outdoor post lights in the shadowed areas.
Outdoor post lights may be ordered in many different heights. Very short lamp posts of one to two feet in height are often used to add lights along a sidewalk or entrance path. Four to five foot high lamps give you a wider circle of illumination but may interfere with vision or passage. Even taller lights exist that can illuminate large areas. They may not be as bright in candlepower.
Generally speaking, the taller the light post is, the broader the circle of light that is provided. However, the light that is usable is also affected by the distance from the ground or from the eyes. You will not get as much effective light from a light on a sixteen-foot post and from an eight-foot post, assuming that the watt size of the bulb is the same.
When deciding which lamps will work for your property, you have to consider how a light generated is going to be used. If you have a big open lawn where you want to play outdoor games at dusk, you might use tall posts with large wattage bulbs. The alternative is to use numerous posts instead of a single light.
You may be trying to find a light post that will provide safety either for walking paths or in the illumination of dark areas around your house. These lights can be motion sensor types, or can be turned on at dusk. There are some lights that work on solar.
Another type of light which is common around homes are those designed exclusively for their decorative features. Light used for decoration can spotlight particular landscaping or architectural features of the home and grounds. These posts can be tall or short. Posts that are put into landscaped flower beds can be very low while those that light a garden entrance may be shoulder height.
Outdoor post lights are generally made of metal or other longer lasting materials including wood or polymers . The posts can match almost any architectural style of homes and garden areas. They may be both decorative and practical. Adding curb appeal for your home and simultaneously making it safer is responsible home ownership.
When choosing an outdoor post light, you should look at the voltage, the spot that needs to be covered by lighting, the sort of glass bulb covering, and the sort of finish you want to have for the post lights.
