Review the list provider's website. Read their FAQ section. Look into their guarantee and refund policy. Look at the lists that they are offering.

List providers will either offer to rent or sell a list to you. Renting a list will limit the number of times that you can use the list. Any good marketer understands that marketing is a process that requires regular and frequent contact with customers and prospects. If you own your list, you can market to it over and over again.

Does the list provider offer technical support? Most do. Lists can be delivered electronically or on a CD. Sometimes, orders for them with a large number of records can only be delivered on CDs. List formats typically come in.csv or.xls. Microsoft Excel has a record display limitation so you may need to use either Excel 7.0 or OpenOffice.org to see files with more than 65,000 records.
