Are you familiar with head lice and know how to identify it? Identifying the head lice is not that hard. Through physical examination, anyone can tell if you or your child has a lice infestation. The louse moves fast and in order to spot them, you can use a flashlight. There are times when lice infestation is mistaken for dandruff because of the symptoms. The symptoms include scratching and constant irritation of the scalp. If you see red bumps on your neck and on your scalp, this is already a strong indication that you have nits and head lice and not any other scalp condition.
When you notice severe itching and red bumps that are due to the bites/saliva of the lice, you have to act immediately. There is no need to overreact once you discover the infestation. If your child has a lice infestation, you need to stay calm and talk to your child about it. Tell him or her that is it vital that the lice be removed by using effective treatments. With so many treatments available, you will need to pick the right ones. Commercial products are quite popular but some have undesirable side effects. Before opting for commercial products, you can first try the efficacy of natural solutions like that of olive oil treatment.
Lice are small insects that are about the size of sesame seeds. These insects need blood to survive; the insects inject saliva into the scalp to suck out blood thereby causing red bumps. The bugs can be white and brown in color. The lice can live for as long as 30 days by feeding on the blood of the host. Aside from the lice, you will also have to remove the eggs or the nits. The nits are the eggs of the lice and you can find them on the hair strands. Check the hair for tiny white balls. Like the lice, you can remove them using fine toothed combs or by using natural or commercial treatments.
Identifying head lice and nits is vital so that you can now determine the most appropriate treatment. As mentioned earlier, there are natural treatments available as well as commercial products. If you don't know much about lice, you can always consult a medical professional. Try the home remedies first so that you can determine the extent of the infestation. In most cases, several repetitions of home treatments can already address the problem but if the lice infestation is severe, you might as well consult with a medical professional so that you can be directed as to the best commercial product to use.
Lice and nits should not be ignored. These small insects can cause a lot of scalp itchiness that can lead to irritations. Other family members can also be infested so it is necessary that you don't share the same bed, the same head accessories, and other things. When the lice are identified, have a separate comb, towel, and other accessories to ensure that the small insects are not passed to other family members. Pick an ideal treatment right away to solve the problem. Don’t panic. You can do it
