Kitchen and bathroom countertops set the tone of the interior of a home's most utilitarian areas. There are lots of counters of all possible types available on the home improvement market. Fortunately, there are lots of good things for home owners willing to use a tiny bit of creative thinking while designing their homes. Creating mosaic countertops is a way for you to employ your creativity and design your living space in the way you see fit.
If this is going to be your first adventure in life, there are tons of information out there on the subject. The stuff is pretty much highlighted in periodicals, books, TV shows, websites, etc., offering diverse ideas and suggestions, so you can choose the most appealing one or figure it out on your own.
Creating mosaic countertops is very entertaining. Whatever pattern you choose, you should first lay it out on your countertop to see what it's going to look like after you finish. Use a magic marker to ensure each tile is set correctly. Do not forget to mark spots where you are going to fix colored tiles.
When you have decided upon the pattern, prepare the surface for tiling. Remove dirt and old cement using a utility knife or any other flat and sharp instrument. Then apply white glue to the surface and lay thinset or any other sleeper (so called memory foams are increasingly popular nowadays). Because thinset tends to dry off rapidly, you'd better tile your countertop in sections. Put a small amount of thinset in a place you are going to start from and spread it out using a trowel. It is recommended to start from the middle and move outwards, so that you can see what you get in the end. When you have attached the tiles, use grout to fill in spaces between them. Grouts are available in various colors, so you can pick out one that matches your design.
The art of mosaic has been around for centuries, since it gives ample ground for creativity and imagination. You may choose not to be content with what home improvement stores offer and outline your own design for your kitchen and bathroom countertops.
Creating mosaic countertops is a sphere where even rough methods work fine. You can simply put several colored tiles into a little sack and bust it with a sledgehammer. Use the shards and your imagination and create your own little masterpiece!
