Providing each prospective painter with a detailed list of your requirements will help eliminate any confusion or added costs once the project has commenced. Walk through the project in your mind, and determine exactly what your expectations are for your painting project. We will be review each of these in detail.
Here are some immediate things to consider:
Size of area to be painted. Square footage is always helpful.
Specify exactly what kind of paint you want - Manufacturer, Type, Finish
(Matte, Satin), Color for each area. often helpful to print out from your camera or computer letter size prints of pictures you have taken of aech are, if there are several colors to keep track off, and then write colors on the printouts for reference for painter and for you. It seems like extra work, but imagine the wrong paint in the right place or vice versa.
Your house will have different components, like accents, etc.
Walk around your house and notice which accents and components are painted in different colors, and that should help you with ideas of what to include. Don't forget to ask about how painter will do the Prep work,
Repair work and Clean Up.
Next review any work you might want to have done before you paint.
Based on the current condition of the areas being painted, or any additional upgrades you are considering, you may need to consider engaging additional services to do that first or even completing this work yourself. For instance this might include replacement of or changes to moldings, or patching damaged drywall spots, and even hanging new doors, or any other maintenance or upgrade items that are not normally performed by a painter. (Ask your painter as many painters can also do these for you under one project, making it easier to manage) Plan to have this work completed prior to commencement of painting tasks.
Based on the type of work you need to complete, ask your painter if they can recommend a service to do these items. Most reputable painters work with reputable renovators or builders.
Next Decide on the Colors and Paints to use
Your specific project will most likely require several different types of paint and different colors.
