Replacing Sand During Oil Spills Clean Up

Once oil from a spill comes onshore, it can saturate the sandy beaches and turn beautiful white sand into a horrible, black, oily wasteland. Once this happens, you can try oil spills clean up methods by hand, but it will take years and possibly tons of money to complete the job. Replacing the sand might be a better option and it can be done with Florida-approved white sand. This is the kind of sand that attracts people to the beaches and it is good for the local wildlife as well. Workers can transport the sand in and use a process called beach nourishment, which replenishes the lost or damaged sand. The sand is placed with a blower, which spreads it evenly and smoothly, so you will not be able to tell that any sand was ever lost.
However, in order to make sure that the sand does not easily erode over time due to storms and other extreme events, you need to make sure there is a stable core installed. This can be accomplished with HESCO® Concertainer® unit. The units are geotextile-lined and work as a gabion that can be filled with materials such as:
· Crushed rock
· Sand
· Earth
· Granular materials
They are easy to install and take little time to put together. A team of two can put the units up within 20 minutes. This saves property owners labor costs as well as time, which can be precious after an oil spill. Clean up may take a long time and with summer waning, there is hardly any time to waste.
Also, once you place the units in under the sand, you might want to also include some agents so that if another spill occurs, the oil will be turned into a solid that can be cleaned up easier. A good agent to use is Enviro Bond 403™ because it is non-toxic and non-harmful to humans or wildlife. Also, the solid oil is taken and recycled for use as asphalt, rubber, fuel or plastics. It is a great tool for keeping beaches clean and helping the environment at the same time.
