Once an oil spill happens, a major threat is immediately proposed to the beaches as well as its wildlife. It may seem impossible to protect the beaches, but new spill equipment that is now on the market has proven to effectively stop the destruction of beaches and wildlife once an oil spill occurs. One of these new inventions is the HESCO® Concertainer® unit. With a welded mesh framework coated with Alu-Zinc along with geotextile materials, the HESCO® units act as an earth-filled gabion that becomes a wall of strength once filled with dirt, sand, crushed rock or granular materials. Oil that washed upon shore will meet the units first before the sandy beaches. The units can be placed a little off shore, so the oil has no chance of even ruining one grain of sand. They can be joined together with the use of pins to form miles of protection from oil spills. Clean up efforts after a spill can be made less difficult with the installation of this kind of spill equipment.
While the HESCO® units are commonly used as spill equipment, they can also be used as a protective beach barrier against floods and erosion. These are common occurrences along the beaches and can cause major damage if something is not done about it. The units can be buried underneath the sand and people can carry on their normal recreational activities on the sand like nothing was ever there. But once the forces of nature threaten to destroy the beach, the units go into action. They can preserve the sand that is on the beach and minimal erosion will take place.
Another great point about using HESCO® units as spill equipment is that they can be installed quickly. Two people can put the units up in as little as 20 minutes. A time-saving method of providing beach protection is appealing to property owners because storms and oil spills can come up on a beach fast. Also, the cost in labor can be greatly reduced because property owners will not have to spend as much paying laborers to install the units as they would if it were 1,500 flood sandbags, the equivalent to a 30-foot tier of the HESCO® units.
One of the oil spill clean up companies that is utilizing the HESCO® units as spill equipment is Integrated Protection Systems. They specialize in protecting beaches and will use their expertise to assist you if you need to protect your beach. For more, log on to www.bp-oil-spills.com.
