Just got back from a four-day event in Baltimore and I learned some great
stuff! Remember, even a coach and mentor needs coaching and mentoring – and
I want to share some of the highlights with you. We heard from some
impressive speakers who have created some great business concepts. In
addition, the keynote address was given by well-known sports figure, Cal
Ripken, Jr.
Virtually everyone has heard of Cal Ripken, Jr., even people who are not big
sports fans. He’s one of the most revered players in baseball. He played
2,632 games in a row and was a Baltimore Oriole for more than 21 years before
retiring. He never missed a game, was never traded from the Baltimore Orioles
and contributed enormously to the success of the team. Here’s what he had
to say about his career longevity, and I’m sure you can see how these
things translate into business success as well. He talked about his Eight
Winning Traits for Breaking Records.
- Always be ready to play full out. Have a winning attitude and develop a
personal mission statement that increases your ability to play the game, or
in this case, grow your business.
- Have a fire to win. Your will to succeed will overcome virtually any
obstacle that comes your way.
- Be passionate about what you do. Your passion will make it unthinkable to
do anything but win.
-
Rise to the occasion. Enjoy the competitiveness of the game and business.
-
Always adjust and readjust so your performance every day is the best you
can do. It’s consistency that wins the game.
- Have a thick skin. Be stubborn and ignore the dream stealers – stick to
your plan right through to its successful conclusion.
- Maintain your physical and emotional strength. You must be able to
maintain focus and you can do that through physical exercise, as well as the
mental challenges of business.
- Manage your personal and business lives. Make sure you’re the one
exerting control of your life. When you plan your schedule, you’ll find
you’ll be able to accomplish a lot more each and every day.
Cal Ripken, Jr. very humbly said he felt like he was a simple, ordinary
person who loved baseball. That love of the game carried him through any
trial, and made him a strong team player.
Do you love what you do? Don’t worry, we’ll show you how to reframe on
the next blog so you do love what you do. Let me know what you’re thinking
as I love to read your comments.
