Number Of Privately Monitored Florida Traffic Cameras Increase

Any driver who has even been caught by a traffic camera probably knows the frustration and pain of receiving a ticket via the mail. When it comes to getting caught speeding or possibly running a light by a piece of technology, rather than a human, it is very difficult to defend yourself and your rights as a driver. Unfortunately, Florida traffic cameras are on the rise and many drivers are worried about what this may mean for them.
Technology is being routinely employed to catch drivers who are speeding or running lights. When a driver is caught, a photo of the vehicle is snapped and a ticket is then sent to the driver's residence along with a picture of the driver committing the illegal act.
When controlled by law enforcement alone, cameras are typically placed in locations where there have been a large number of accidents. They may also be placed in high traffic areas where drivers frequently violate the laws.
For many cities, driving violations are a great source of income that can be used for a variety of city projects and budgetary needs. However, many drivers assume that all monitoring devices are being installed and maintained by city officials, such as law enforcement officers. This is no longer the case, since many cities are now hiring private security firms to run the cameras for them.
For many drivers, privately run road monitoring technologies are a huge source of concern. This is because the private companies are largely driven by a need to profit, rather than a need to improve driver safety. It is possible that an increase in privately run monitors will lead to an increase in ticketed drivers as well as higher fines. There is also the possibility that the newly installed devices will do nothing to decrease the number of car accidents and that they will only be placed in locations where there is a high volume of traffic.
Drivers who receive a ticket that has been based on photographic evidence, unfortunately, have very little chance of being able to successfully fight the ticket. This is because many courts will uphold the image itself and the description of the technologies as fact without questioning its nature. For example, some people have cited that the sensitivity of some devices is too high and that they are not capable of differentiating between a driver who must go through a yellow light as it turns red because there was not enough time to stop and a driver who blatantly runs a red light. In both cases, a ticket will be issued.
In response to the increased prevalence of monitoring devices, some companies have come up with methods to help drivers avoid being issued a ticket. For example, there are now special sprays and license plate covers that can prevent a camera from identifying your license plate number. The number will still be visible to the naked eye, though.
It is possible that the rise in Florida traffic cameras may lead to increased driver safety. However, you may want to invest in a GPS device that tracks their locations to help you drive defensively and avoid a ticket.
