Five Ways to Enjoy Sledging (Without a Sledge)

2011 is finally here and it's cold. No surprise for those who live in the UK. Our winters are getting harsher and we are getting used to seeing snow outside our windows when we awake - but it's not all bad news. At least 2011 should offer some great sledging opportunities.
If you find yourself without a sledge and up snow creek - try one of these alternatives to get you moving...
- Inner tube from a tractor / truck
Probably your best alternative. Tractor inner tubes make amazing sledges and they are even more comfortable than the 'proper' sledges. You also get the benefit of being able to fit more people on. Hilarious fun for the family.
- Refuse Sacs
Get hold of a thick refuse sac and punch holes in it for your head and arms. Throw yourself down the slope on your front or back, or side, or whatever. Make sure you get the thickest sac available to avoid ripping it. Wheelie bin sacs should do the trick.
- Rubber Dinghies
A rubber dinghy can make a great sledge although we won't be held responsible for any punctures. If you've got a cheap dinghy left over from that 1995 Spanish holiday then give it a go. What have you got to lose?
- Wheelie Bin Lids
A classic solution. Go find yourself a wheelie bin and remove the lid (these usually clip back on when you're finished). Turn it upside down and away you go. Suitable for a single person only.
- Air Beds
Like dinghies, air beds can make good sledges but are prone to punctures. When the snow melts in the local park there is always at least one discarded air bed left on the grass. So don't say you weren't warned.
After a hard days sledging, relax in an ultra-comfortable bean bag from Bean Bag Bazaar.
