Choosing the Right Lighting

Lighting is one of the key elements that helps transform your house to a home. The proper lighting enables you to perform tasks easily, makes you feel safer, and allows you to enjoy your home at its full potential. Each room, however, has specific and unique General and Accent lighting needs.

The 1st thing people notice when walking into the house is usually the lighting. So lets start with the entry way foyer lighting. A nice chandelier or decorative pendant light fixture works well; so do low voltage light fixtures and wall sconces.

As you proceed through the home its important to have good general lighting throughout the house. Especially in the hallways and stairways, as they are the conduits to the entrances, exits, and other rooms of the home. Wall scones and recessed lighting are good options. For stairway landings a nice pendant is a good option as well.

For living areas, such as the dining room and living room, recessed light fixtures are probably the most common and give off a nice light. If you have nice art work a recessed can with an adjustable trim to wash the wall with light is nice. To accent a nice dining table a few pendant lights and/or a track light fixture.

Kitchen is where most of the time is spent. So it is important to have ample lighting there. In a kitchen recessed lighting is nice. So is under cabinet lights. Maybe a few pendants over the kitchen island and table.

For a the bathroom a nice vanity light over the sink is nice. Recessed lights also work well here but make sure you have the appropriate trims over the shower if needed.

Helpful lighting tips:

  1. to save energy you can put in compact flourescent lamps

  2. dimmer switches

  3. LED light fixtures

  4. home automation system

The key to all good quality lighting is have it installed properly to provide safety and appropriate illumination is having a licensed electrician do the work.
