Energy costs are getting excessive with every hike in the price of oil. It’s getting kind of scary as to how reliant we are on the rest of the oil producing world for our very existence. Wind turbines for the home and solar for the home are now becoming attractive alternatives.

But imagine a world without reliance on others? Consider a place where a healthy percentage of our daily lives were about us – about what we were doing to sustain our lives. It’s all about that feeling of freedom and total sustainability.

Right now, everything, from transport to living in our homes is almost 100% dependent on the cost of oil. Oil prices go up and so then do energy prices overall. The nightmare scenario of a world in chaos with oil blackmail is not as far-fetched as we imagine. Expect the unexpected says the wise man.

The trend now is to look for alternative sources of energy – energy that doesn’t cost. We are, as First World dwellers, fast becoming aware of our vulnerability and our responsibilities. Solar energy and Wind power are very real options as the technology advances and corporations, including a few big oil companies, are starting to consider the renewable sources of energy.

The reasoning is, that if the corporates are starting to look at their very survival in a future world, then the writing is on the wall for the regular citizen of the world to follow suit – fast! In a decade from now, the "Green Industry" will be like the Microsoft and Apple of today with applications and uses that are an everyday requirement.

An introduction to this new world definitely can start at home. Taking time to explore what options are open to us now in creating sustainable and free renewable energy. It really is so simple.

Start yourself on a small project – have a solar panel that can run some electrical appliances and invest in a wind turbine for the home where you can begin to unshackle from the chains of escalating costs and an environmentally unfriendly carbon footprint.

Imagine being able to sit back on the porch and watch as the wind turbine spins away and generates power for the home. How about when the neighborhood is in a blackout but the oasis of light and life is from your residence? Now that would be fantastic. How cool would that be?

A life of unrestricted living and weaning yourself off the grid is an immensely satisfying idea. Solar and wind power is cost effective to the extent that you could run a family home entirely with a percentage of your power taken on by the alternative energy sources and this certainly goes a long way to some sense of accomplishment.

Investing in a wind turbine for the home now could be the start of a beautiful green relationship.
