Wearable cameras are relatively new in the video and camera markets. They have been around only in the past few years and have only been used by big movie companies due to their high prices. Now, however, these point-of-view cameras have already evolved to stronger, more versatile and more affordable pieces of equipment that can be used by anyone. From the extreme sports enthusiast to the local researcher to the recreational diver, these helmet cameras are used to film the highlights of life and the moments that make life memorable. If you don't have any clue about what these cameras are, they are simply durable, shockproof, mostly high-definition cameras that you can attach to your helmet, strap on to your chest or mount on the handlebars of your bike or attach to any part of your car to film outdoor action sports activities. Since they also come with waterproof housing, these can also be used up to a certain depth during snorkeling or diving expeditions.
However, just because these wearable cameras are resistant to falls and scratches doesn't mean that you don't have to care for them. Observing the following care measures will prolong the life of your camera.
-
Make sure that the shockproof housing is securely shut when you put it over your camera. When the housing is not locked in place, it runs the danger of getting dislodged from your camera. In the event that the camera falls without the protective housing, it could shatter in pieces (if the fall is hard enough) and get damaged.
-
Follow the same rule when you're readying the camera for your water expeditions. Getting your camera wet without the proper protective gear is tantamount to drowning your purchase. Don't even attempt to try it.
-
Never attempt to use a waterproof wearable camera deeper than the prescribed depth it can reach. Also, make sure that the camera is waterproof in the first place. There are some cameras that are only rainproof but cannot be taken underwater.
-
Before heading out, always make sure that the camera is securely strapped to its mount or to the harness. If you feel that it's unstable and won't hold, you can use glue to secure the camera in place.
-
To prolong the life of your batteries and to prevent them from leaking inside your camera, always remove them after use. This is particularly important if you plan to store your camera for a long period of time.
-
Fully charge your batteries before using them.
-
Wipe your camera with a clean damp cloth to remove dust and dirt.
-
Always store your camera in bag or camera case when not in use.
-
In the event that the housing gets damaged or broken, replace it right away. Don't postpone it for another day since your housing protects your camera.
-
Never attempt to use your camera without the protective casing in place.
By following these care measures, the life and longevity of your wearable camera can be lengthened and prolonged.
