It is rare for the average movie viewer to not be aware of the well-established resurgence in 3D movies. There are currently 60+ Hollywood films programmed for release over the next 2 years. They vary from animated films such as Mars Needs Moms, Rio and Cars 2, and versions of comics and graphic novels such as The Amazing Spiderman and Adventures of Tintin. Nonethless, several movies that you would not consider an acceptable fit with 3D are to be released in that format, one of these is The Great Gatsby, coming to your Cineplex in 2012.
People have become used to wearing the 3D spectacles at the picture house but the question is how many have weighed it up as an option for their home entertainment and have contemplated building home cinema systems in their homes to accommodate the most modern television technology.
The current dominant player in the 3DTV market are Samsung, with approximately 60 per cent market share as a result of their "active shutter" display technology despite the use of the pricier and weightier 3D glasses that need batteries. Panasonic and Sony in addition offer active-shutter 3D televisions and LG do too, although they've declared they will be moving to the new FPR otherwise known as film-type patterned retarder panels this year. This new system of LG's is built on light polarisation and uses the cheaper, lighter glasses as worn in the cinema to view 3D films.
The Samsung PS50C490 has been available in Britain for some time now. It has a Mega contrast ratio that ensures that subtle details are carefully recreated, with and darker images can be seen clearly. This 3D plasma, 50 inch television also makes use of 600Hz sub-field scanning. This ensures that motion blur is reduced and is of great benefit with 3D film. Obviously, when watching in 2D this is still a notable television. Samsung's excellent reputation for quality products is carried through with the PS50C490. Rich colour, smooth motion and excellent levels of detail.
It is suggested that you operate an amplifier and speakers to match this large screen television. This 3DTV provides 2x10 watts as standard and a pair of Dolby sound processors. The new Dolby Pulse system makes the PS50C490 broadcast ready for the next generation. Dolby Pulse provides better sound quality from conventional television programs. Dolby Digital Plus processing is also on hand to get the optimum results from the latest blockbuster releases.
Richer Sounds is the UK's biggest supplier of home entertainment goods, that includes home cinema systems, 3DTV and Hi-Fi and were awarded the Which? esteemed 'Best Retailer' award for 2010
