Sometimes the introduction of a new piece of furniture can reinvigorate a room. There is often no need to decorate, paint or wallpaper when a carefully chosen piece or pieces of furniture can brighten up and transform existing décor.
The dining room is probably the most important room in the house as it can bring family members together for much needed quality time, it is used for dinner parties or just for relaxing and having a quiet meal. As such it is vitally important to decorate the dining room with gorgeous, comfortable and quality furniture.
Leather dining chairs are still extremely popular choice of chair for the modern dining room. They are now widely available in myriad colours from Antique brown leather dining chairs, black leather dining chairs and high roll back cream leather dining chairs. Stylish and elegant they also add practicality to the mix with there ability to wipe clean meaning greater longevity unlike chairs upholstered in fabric which can easily mark over time. However there are different qualities of leather dining chairs and it is important to make sure that the chairs you choose are both, elegant, comfortable and strong.
High back leather dining chairs are often the most expensive due to the greater amount of materials used in there construction. The high back dining chairs do make a bold statement in a room and along with a scroll at the top of the back and a longer skirt can really enhance a room. High back leather dining chairs also provide more support to the back which can be especially important when sitting for longer than half an hour at a dinner party.
The quality of the leather is also extremely important when choosing leather dining chairs. Suppliers and online retailers should inform customers of the type of leather before they buy a dining chair and if they don’t it is important to ask so you can make an informed choice. Aniline and Semi-Aniline leather (full grain leather) are the softest and the best quality leather and usually the most expensive. Top grain and bycast are the next most expensive and often used by furniture manufacturers for there price and durability. Bycast in particular is not as soft as other leathers but does have a polyurethane coat making it far stronger. Bonded or reconstituted leather is still regarded as leather but certainly towards the cheaper end of the market. It is composed of the fibres of scrap leather bonded together to create the feel and look of leather. Certainly not as strong or durable as other leather types and not recommended for dining chairs that will be used frequently.
The frame is the second most important part when buying leather dining chairs. It is certainly important to determine whether the frame is a solid hardwood frame, like oak, beech, birch wood or ash wood or whether the legs are solid wood but the frame is plywood or cheaper wood like rubber wood.
Solid wood frames are far stronger and more likely to stand up to the rigours of busy household and last for years but can be slightly more expensive than soft wood chairs.
One of the latest concepts is semi flat-packed or semi knock down dining chairs. This is where the back including the back legs and the seat arrive separately allowing for cheaper shipping. The advantage of this is often cheaper dining chairs but the downside is a nasty line or gap in the leather between the seat and the back which is not stitched. This is often a stitched area in solid wood frames and looks far more attractive. This area can also be a weak point in the frame as the chair is bolted together rather than joined as with solid wood one piece construction.
Whatever style of leather dining chair you decide to purchase make sure it fits in with your budget and décor of your dining room.
