In kitchens, the sink is among the most important areas that complete an efficient layout. When it comes to choices, stainless steel sinks can be said to be the most popular one in the market. But like everything else, not all kitchen remodeling products are equal and buying the wrong one can be frustrating. So to avoid this mistake, this article lays out the basics to know and the crucial factors to keep in mind when buying stainless steel sinks.
There are various reasons why homeowners choose stainless steel sinks for their kitchen remodeling:
• Popular and easily available.
• Affordable.
• Flexibility in terms of complementing with various kitchen designs and color scheme.
• Easy maintenance.
• Do not chip or break.
• Durability to last for many practical years.
The Basics
Stainless steel sinks are manufactured from steel that has been alloyed or combined with other elements that allows such kitchen remodeling feature to showcase the benefits they offer. Two of the most important of these elements that enhance the quality of the material are chromium and nickel. The higher the amount of chromium and nickel, the more durable the sink will be. And the better the grade of the stainless steel, the more resistant the sink will be to corrosion.
Gauge
Stainless steel sinks come in many different gauges and as a rule of thumb, the thicker the better. Kitchens are the busiest areas in homes and your sink is among the features that take a lot of beatings from the everyday accumulation of dishes, silverware, pans, pots and everything else that gets tossed into the basic. Basically, a thicker gauge makes for a tougher sink and a thinner one will be less resistant to dents and marks. It is also the thinner, uninsulated sink products that are noisier. Gauge ranges from 16 gauge to 22 gauge, and it is important to take note that the thicker the sink is, the smaller gauge number they have.
Mount
Stainless steel sinks come in top mount or under mount designs. An under mount sink integrates with your counters seamlessly. Because it lies below the countertop, no food particles are trapped between the counter and sink. A top mount sink features a rim that covers a part of the counter. This style not only creates an interesting touch to the décor but also adds stability, holding the sink in place.
Sink Basin
Depending on your personal needs, you can choose from single or double basins for your kitchen remodeling project. If you are not much of a cook and have a smaller household, a single basin sin would suffice. This would also be ideal if you are working on a smaller spaced countertop. However if you have ample counter space for a two basin sink, this would prove to be a more efficient choice. Stainless steel sinks in single or double basin also comes in different sizes, making it possible for you to choose the best fitting product to your kitchen remodeling.
