There is much to think about when choosing a type of flooring for your conservatory and much of it depends on what you are primarily going to be using it for. Lots of people actually buy conservatories without giving this seemingly obvious question a thought.
If you are planning on using it as a playroom, then a hard, slippery floor probably isn’t the best idea. If installing a kitchen area, then something easy to clean and wipe would be preferable due to spillages etc. Be aware of how busy your conservatory may get and the amount of people walking in and out, usually with footwear on. Do you want to use it after a long muddy walk with wellies on? If so, then carpet would not be a good choice. If you have pets and intend them to be able to use the conservatory, then, again you must make the correct choice and take this into consideration. Would laminate flooring that is easy to wipe clean the best option for you? If your conservatory is to be a place of more quiet meditation and less activity, then carpet could suit it better.
This all seems rather obvious at first glance, but then you must consider all the options and how best to fulfil your own idea of what your living space in terms of the conservatory, is going to be. How are you going to use it should be your foremost question and motivation, through which all others follow.
Do you want underfloor heating? If you have a South-facing conservatory, then it will get very warm in the summer, and so you may want a cooler type of flooring. There are literally hundreds of alternatives for all possible types of flooring from cork to hardwood to marble. However, the idea isn’t to present a long list of them here. Research and study the different types in your own time, and think through the options and what you consider to be most appropriate to your conservatory.
The fact is that a conservatory floor will get a lot of use, usually with footwear. A lot of the time there will be furniture or other large objects on top of the flooring. Finally, the sun will play a huge part in testing the floors durability. Depending on what side your conservatory will be facing could dramatically affect the amount of sunlight, and therefore, the wear of your interior. This is a main point to consider.
