LED lights have a number of different advantages over traditional halogen lamps. While a normal halogen lamp has a lifespan of about 2000 to 4000 hours, LED lights are known to have much longer life-spans ranging from 25,000 to 80,000 hours. A halogen bulb can last only for a few months at the most, while LED lights can live on for months and even years. So, the need to replace LED lights would be drastically minimized, which in turn would reduce lighting costs for the consumer.
LEDs are also more energy efficient by nature. They use only 20% of the power used by an equivalent halogen bulb. Consumers can save a lot of money in reduced energy bills if they replace their traditional light bulbs with LED lights.
LEDs do not become hot during their operation, as opposed to halogen lamps. They are very safe to use, especially when small children are around. Halogen lamps can get very hot during operation, and they lose most of the energy they receive by way of heat. So, they are very inefficient in converting electrical energy to light energy. By contrast, LEDs use only 20% of the power and they use almost all of it in light generation. The hazard of fire due to overheating is almost ruled out with the use of LED lighting systems. Therefore, they can safely be used as decorative lights around the house. They can be wrapped around trees and shrubs without affecting them in any manner.
LED lamps are highly resistant to temperature extremes. So, they are ideal for being used outdoors for camping, hunting trips and trekking in the wild. They can be exposed to the elements without suffering damage. They would also last much longer on battery, which is an extremely important requirement for outdoor use. While traditional bulbs use delicate filaments and are therefore extremely sensitive to shocks and impacts, LED lights are very robust and can withstand a great deal of rough use. This again makes them ideal for outdoor use.
Apart from normal lighting usage, LEDs are also used for traffic signs and signals. Since they can be switched on and off repeatedly without any damage, they are ideal for flashing signs and decorative features. LEDs are also used widely in automobile indicators.
With so many advantages to their credit, it is quite obvious that switching over to LEDs is a much wiser option.
