It seems a hectic job to clean and maintain the gutters and downpipes to many homeowners and it is the main reason for overlooking this great home maintenance job. With the passage of time many obstructing objects like shoots, leaves and sticks become the cause of choking of gutters and damage the properties. Real problem arises at the time of their repairs and replacement when it needs a lot of cost to do so.
It is not known to many that that the well maintained gutters are helpful in protecting the foundations of a house. It does not let the rainwater fall near the foundation. Water can get into the interior of the house rapidly in case of penetration in the foundation or seepage in the walls. In that case the help of a professional can be sought to repair or it can be done on the part of homeowner himself.
If an owner would opt to his or her own repairs it is best to have the right and complete tools in hand. These tools should include ladders, brushes, hose, gloves, helmet and fasteners. Another thing that homeowner should take note is the handling of these equipment and the safety measures needed during the repairing process. For instance, a homeowner should know how to handle the ladder. Positioning, types of ladders, use and proper ladder length are some major concerns which the owner should know. Having a healthy and strong physique is also practical when it comes to handling construction. People who experience frequent blackouts due to health issues should avoid these types of projects.
Weather conditions and gutter length can add to the problems of cleaning exercise a lot. It is comparatively easy to clean the gutters in dry spell owing to ease of use of blowers. Small stones or pebbles can easily be removed from the gutter by sweeping or brushing. It is hard to perform the practice in wet weather as surfaces are sticky and moist. Using a long hose is helpful in reaching remote areas of gutter and can easily remove the objects stuck in the gutter and also helpful in future prevention against silt.
Downpipes should be taken care of once the gutters have been cleaned. They can be cleaned by flushing the water through it by a hose. Pipelines can be cleaned by giving a strong water pressure while removing dirt in it. Vertical augurs can be used to remove hard to go dirt. Curved areas of the pipes are the places where they are prone to clogging. Water can be flushed through pipes to check the blockage and if water is running smoothly, it is then free of obstructions.
