Kitchen Applications: All machines produce black coffee.
Types: Percolators brew coffee in a self-contained urn that can be easily transported to a meeting room, breakfast bar, etc. Some models are programmable, cordless, or have a spigot for dispensing.
Pourover or Drip coffee makers make full pots of coffee quickly and easily by distributing hot water evenly over ground beans to produce coffee with an intense flavor. Glass carafes are widely used in electric drip coffee makers to see when coffee is ready or running low. Models can come with up to five separately controlled warming plates to maintain coffee temperature in the carafe.
Airpot / Thermal Brewers: Filled airpots are easily transportable to meeting rooms, breakfast bars, etc. Singles can brew 3.8 gallons (14.4 liters) to 7.5 gallons (28.4 liters) of coffee per hour; the airpot keeps coffee hot and fresh for hours. Twin airpot machines can brew 15 gallon (56.8 liters) of coffee per hour.
Unique Features/Technology: A dual brewing station, also called a double-pot system, lets you make two pots of coffee at once. It makes a good option for people who want to make regular and decaf or two different types of coffee simultaneously. Machines with a built-in grinder grind fresh coffee beans with each pot brewed.
Capacity: Coffee makers with decanters range from single serving to 4-cup, 8-cup, 10-cup, and 12-cup models; Urns can have a 42 cup capacity. Pourover coffee makers can brew up to 100 cups per hour. Portable insulated coffee dispensers can maintain 18 cups (1.3 gallons) up to 214 cups (11.75 gallons) of coffee.
Energy Source: Most coffeemakers require single-phase 13 amp plugs.
Construction: Most brewers are made of stainless steel, with a hot water tank, spray head, filter unit and coffee receptacle. Warming plates are common for drip coffee makers.
Maintenance:If a food service business is not using conditioned water, the water line must be de-limed regularly. All coffee makers should be wiped daily to remove the natural coffee bean oils; carafes should be washed daily.
