Thankfully, due to the incredible selection of skiing holidays now available, you don’t have to look too hard to find your very own slice of snowy perfection. And with a huge variety of ski accommodation options to choose from, from hotels and hostels to bed and breakfast, from self-catering apartments and chalets to spa hotels and enormous ski-in, ski-out resorts, you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to deciding where you want to lay your weary bones after a hard days skiing.
Ski Resorts
When you are first considering your ski holiday, get the resort right. Think about your ski level - are you a beginner or a more advanced skier? And off the slopes, what are you looking for? Do you want quality family time? Do you want all night après-ski activities? Or long and lazy pampering spa treatments?
You might want to try more alternative winter activities too – How about trying husky dog sledding? Then look at Whistler. Or heliskiing? Look at Italy's Selva Val Gardena. And if you are planning on proposing to your loved one on a romantic sleigh ride, then Kitzbuhel in Austria is the resort for you! Offpiste, telemark, snowboarding – whatever it is you want to do, focus first on the resort that can offer you those things. After that, you can get down to the knitty gritty of accommodation choices.
Ski Chalets
Good high end ski companies often have different levels of chalet accommodation. Scott Dunn, for example, has 23 chalets situated in top resorts such as Courchevel 1850, Val d’Isere, Zermatt and St Anton. The company’s ‘Flagship and Premier’ ski chalets (of which there are 15) are defined by having understated personal service, gourmet food and wine, driver service, REN products, as well as wellness areas or indoor swimming pools.
Ski Hotels
A hotel holiday ticks different boxes. Expect all the normal perks of staying in a hotel – room service, fresh linen daily, extensive wine lists and menus, but remember too that a much larger number of guests means you get more anonymity and sometimes more package/stay flexibility than a chalet too.
Different ski resorts (and different operators) offer different levels of hotel and hotel service. Most resorts now boast a choice of small family run hotels, larger boutique properties, traditional alpine style hotels or more corporate hotels with hi tech business facilities. Again – think about what you want from your ski holiday before you book your ski accommodation.
Nowadays you can even find chalet-hotels, which some people think are the best of both worlds - a hotel that boasts chalet style rooms (a bit like bungalows on a luxury beach holiday), where you can be part of the hotel (with room service and breakfast in bed) but with the individual and privately cosy feel of a chalet too.
Self-Catering
You can of course opt for self-catering too – no chalet staff, no hotel staff, but the freedom to do exactly as you please, when you want to do it. And don’t think self-catering has to be basic and luxury-free either. The Lodge Champeray apartments in Portes du Soleil in the Alps consist of 11 stunning contemporary apartments with private hot tubs, concierge service and meals delivered direct to your door.
Whatever you are looking for, you can be sure your perfect accommodation solution exists. Just do your research first, and use a reputable company too!
Here the author Sara Allom writes about the ski accommodation, ski holidays, and ski chalets. She even writes abut the self catering chalets also. Sara gives a picturesque description of food, scenic beauty and the stay. This write up definitely acts as guiding line for the ski holidays goers.
