How to Find Antique Fireplace Accessories
Some home owners when they buy a home that has a fireplace, they immediately go out and buy the various accessories and fixtures new. They think that new is better.
But more aware, more discriminating home owner, also looks at a fireplace as a bit of an antique. They think back to a time when the fireplace was the centerpiece of a home, back to a time when the fireplace was the sole way to heat a home.
Those are the people who look at a fireplace has as a focal point for being an antique.
And because they think like that, they want to accessorize it with vary pieces and components which will give the fireplace a sense of history.
Since man started accessorizing fireplaces with andirons, firebacks, fire tools, fire screens and fire grates, people today have been wanting to have their fireplace decorated in a very similar fashion.
For the more discriminating home owners, money is no object. And they would easily pay $15,000 and up for fireplace fixtures and accessories which accurately portray the past when it comes to their fireplace.
Fortunately, for the more practical home owner, fireplace accessories, even antique ones, do not need to cost anywhere near that amount.
If you do some diligent searching, if you are willing to be a bit patient, you can find great looking, antique fireplace screens, grates, andirons and tools for a very reasonable amount.
Admittedly, the word "reasonable" is subjective and open to interpretation. But there are deals out there. It's not every day that someone needs andirons to accessorize their fireplace.
So antique dealers are willing to be a bit more flexible. They also don't know the true worth of the items.
So when you are antique hunting for your fireplace you have basically two options, be patient and find the pieces are that are right for your fireplace. Or visit a dealer who has done all the heavy lifting in terms of acquiring fireplace accessories from around the world.
