Anti-snoring devices are known to be a safe, non-invasive way to prevent snoring. Mouthpieces are popular, "snoreless" pillows, throat/nasal sprays, nasal strips, chin straps, and if medically necessary, a CPAP machine might be in order. Essentially, all anti-snoring devices can be said to "work", however; what works for one might not work for the other.
However, as is the case when shopping for anything, there are a lot of anti-snore devices out there and knowing what to look for will make your selection process a lot easier. The one thing that worked to cure my dads snoring was an anti snoring device that is basically a soft gel mouth piece that you insert into your mouth at night when ready to go to sleep. To my surprise, within a couple days the mouthpiece cured my dads snoring by 90%. And when he did occasionally snore, it was no wear as near as loud as it used to be.
There are many products on the market today that are advertised as effective stop snoring devices. These include mouth guards that push the lower jaw and tongue forward, nasal strips that gently pull the nostrils apart, and even a new gadget that has two small tubes that insert into the nose to keep the airways from being blocked. Typically stop snoring devices are mouth guards that your dentist or doctor will fit for you specifically. These guards will work to keep your lower jaw pushed forward which will in turn keep your tongue in place as well, since the tongue is connected to the lower jaw. The result of this is that your mouth is less likely to fall open during sleep since your jaw is in proper alignment.
So what can be done about the snoring problem? Well, before you trawl the Net looking for remedies for snoring, it's worth doing a little detective work to try and establish whether the culprit is a nose or mouth snorer. The only way you will find this out is to listen to him; so resist the desire to smother him with his favourite Winnie-the-Pooh pillow and watch him instead. Anti snoring devices in nose snorers include nasal strips and nostril dilators; he will look ridiculous, but hey, you are used to that. If he snores because he insists on sleeping on his back, develop sharp elbows to poke him in the ribs or sew a rubber ball into the back of his pyjamas so that it is too uncomfortable for him to lie on his back. You never know, it may work!
