Chunnel Train is the name given to the famous Eurostar train that runs between London to Paris, London to Brussels and to other major destination like Disneyland, Lille etc in Paris.
Why Chunnel Train?
Chunnel i.e. Channel Tunnel is the 50 km long tunnel beneath The English Channel. This tunnel connects London to Paris and Brussels. As Eurostar is the only passenger train that operates from London to Paris/Brussels through this Channel Tunnel, so it is also known as Chunnel Train.
History of Channel Tunnel and Importance
The plan of Channel Tunnel was first proposed in year 1975. Although it was rejected at that time, but later in 1985 the project reopened and in year 1987 the project got approval of French and British governments. In 1994 the construction of Chunnel begun and it took nearly 4 years to complete.
This tunnel begins at Folkestone in Kent district of UK and emerges at Calais, in France. There are three tunnels in this, out of which one is for Eurotunnel (train service that carry car, buses etc.), one for a service train and one for passenger train begin operated by Eurostar.
This tunnel is an important part of high speed train network that connects London to Paris and Brussels.
Eurostar London to Paris
You can take Eurostar from St. Pancras station in London and travel to the heart of Paris in just 2 hr 15 min. Fare for this journey starts from just 69 GBP return. Prices for premier classes are higher, but the facilities you get are also excellent.
Travel to Nice from Paris
Nice is one of the most visited cities in Paris and is known for its scenic beauty. It is the most visited tourist place in Paris. You can visit from Paris to Nice by Thalys train, but you need not to take separate tickets for this if you are travelling from London to Nice. You can take one ticket from Eurostar and they will arrange the full journey from you. Transfer of stations will also be arranged by Eurostar.
