England is a country which along with Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales makes Great Britain. England is divided in 48 ceremonial counties each having a Lord Lieutenant.
Essex is one of the important counties of England. Here is brief information about Essex.
About Essex:
Essex is located in east England region of the United Kingdom. It is one of the non metropolitan counties of the country. It is one the most populous counties in England and is located north east to Greater London. Sections of the county which are bounded with London are a part of metropolitan green belt which has prohibited development.
The highest point of the county is Chrishall Common, which reaches 482m. From south, Essex is bounded by River Thames. The settlement pattern of the county is very much diverse. The industries are limited to the southern part of the county with the majority of the land is being used for agriculture. The centre for electronics, science and pharmaceutical companies lies in Harlow while Chelmsford is the home of Marconi.
Light engineering and the service sector dominates other businesses of the county. The London Stansted Airport is the main airport of Essex from where you can take flights to Europe and North America. The county’s major port is Port of Tilbury. There are two main rail routes in Essex. The first one is from City of London to Southend-on-sea operated from Fenchurch Street railway station and the other is from National Express East Anglia from the Liverpool Street station.
Landmarks of Essex:
a) Bradwell on sea – It is a village located in Essex. It is located about 9km north-northeast of Southminster and 30km east of Chelmsford County. The Village is also named as Bradwell juxta Mare, Bradwell-next-the-Sea and Bradwell near the Sea.
b) Hedingham Castle – It is a Norman motte and bailey castle with a stone keep. It is believed to build in late 11th and 12th century by Aubrey de Vere. The top floor of the castle was added in late 15th century to provide extra accommodation. The castle was held by de Vere family till 16th century.
