Midway is a village in the English county of Derbyshire. Located in the English East Midlands, the county of Derbyshire contains a large amount of the beautiful Peak District National Park. Midway is therefore within travelling distance of some of the most spectacular scenery that can be seen in the United Kingdom. Scenic mountain ranges that can be visited include Kinder Scout and Marn Tor. These will be of particular interest to people who enjoy hill walking and trekking, as well as more adventurous types who like mountain climbing.
Lakes and reservoirs in Derbyshire that are within travelling distance of Midway and are worth visiting include Ladybower, Howden and Derwent. Midway is also within visiting distance of some interesting preserved steam railways. These include the Midland Railway and the Peak Rail steam railway. Steam railway enthusiasts flock to these places in the spring and summer months when the magnificent steam engines are operational. Sometimes the operators of the steam railways will attach large faces on the engines and have Thomas The Tank Engine days for children.
According to the most recent census, there are around 7,300 people living in the village of Midway. Midway is a pleasant village with a good choice of residential properties for people who are wishing to move into the area. There are numerous terraced houses to choose from. Such properties are built side by side and are often of a similar design. There is also a good choice of semi detached residential properties that are available in Midway. There are not built in long rows like terraced properties, but are joined to just one or two adjacent houses. For people looking for a place with its own plot, there are a number of pleasant detached houses in Midway to choose from.
Midway is a suburb of Swadlincote, which is a town of some 36,000 people. Sometimes the local people will shorten the name of the town to 'Swad' when they are talking about it on a day to day basis. The village of Midway is to the North of Swadlincote. Midway merges into Newhall which is a village that is around a mile away from Midway. Newhall village is served by a community centre on the high street. The community centre has meeting rooms, a café and various rooms for learning sessions.
The village of Church Gresley is another community that is also very close to Midway. The local football team is the Gresley Rovers, who have participated in the Northern Premier League First Division. The village of Hartshorne is another community that is close to Medway village. The local people pronounce the name of their village as 'Artsun'. There is a public house in Hartshorne that is called The Rodney. This pub is not named, as some people may think, after the character Rodney in the TV show Only Fools and Horses. In fact the pub is named after a rather more distinguished person from the past, an eighteenth century nobleman called the First Baron Rodney.
